Enchanted Knolls
The homeowners embarked on a major renovation of the landscape, in front and in back. With a keen eye and desire for low water plants, we created a modern, low water-use Mediterranean paradise with a nod to Palm Springs.

When the shrubs were cleaned out in front of the house, an unsightly HVAC unit took center stage, so we needed to provide cover, and also highlight the beautiful Hollywood Junipers. We built a screening frame around the appliance and plumbing fixtures, and selected small, individually molded breeze blocks to form a decorative wall, which looks fantastic day and night. Sparse plantings enhance the minimalist modern look, while the rectilinear cement path, edged in Mexican pebbles, point to the courtyard door.
From Front to Back
As a designer, I got lucky with clients who had their own sense of artistry. The couple had already installed a beautiful Connecticut Bluestone slab staircase and patio that they designed themselves. We corrected some drainage problems and brought in a colorful palette of Mediterranean plants, anchoring the top of the hill with a Pomegranate tree to honor the homeowner’s heritage.
